‘Burnout Paradise’ is a recently released video game and is the newest installment in the gaming world of Burnout franchise. It’s released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and will also be available on Microsoft Windows from January 2009.

Rating: E10 (Everyone 10 and older) for violence and language Burnout games have always been close to perfection. From the time I played one of the car-wreck scenarios in the first Burnout, in which the object is to rack up as much dollar damage as possible, I knew the series was headed toward greatness.We've seen bigger, better, faster versions, but the games were always held back by the same factor that negatively affects other driving-racing games.You know the scenario: You're racing five other cars through city streets at top speed when, all of a sudden, there's a wall of huge blinking arrows seemingly screaming "Turn! Turn! You can't go through here!"Until you memorize every curve of every race course, those arrows can really sneak up on you. And then smash! Your car is totaled.


Burnout Paradise changes that with the most dramatic upgrade the series has seen yet. Paradise City, perhaps the Paradise City, judging by the Guns N' Roses track that opens the game, is the setting for this new game. But instead of a series of stand-alone tracks, you get one huge open city inviting you to drive anywhere, do anything.
The freedom is exhilarating, and exactly what the series needed. There will be some naysayers who liken the new Burnout to past Need for Speed games, and, at first, that might seem a fair assessment. And then you start driving. And racing. And crashing. And smashing other cars.

There are many race and stunt challenges to be found in Paradise City, roughly 120 of them scattered from the waterfront-downtown core in the southeast to the ranches and windmill farms in the mountains to the north and west.Starting an event is just a matter of stopping at any light- controlled intersection and pressing two trigger buttons simultaneously.

When you begin a race event, the narrator-DJ chimes in and points out the finish line on a city map. It's up to you to choose the quickest route there, and often you'll have to improvise along the way. There are hundreds of secret shortcuts and jumps, and you get extra credit for breaking through the 400 barriers and smashing through 120 Burnout billboards.
Initiate stunt events the same way, but instead of racing from point A to point B, you'll be scouting for special ramps with kickers that will send you spinning and/or rolling as you fly through the air. Stick the landing to claim your points.Your chosen vehicle can make a huge difference in your performance on any given race or stunt challenge. You'll start with one barely street-worthy wreck and can win about 75 cars as you progress through the game.
As great as the game's single-player mode is, racing against other players online is phenomenally fun and easy in Paradise City. A quick button press is all it takes to slip into online mode. You can join a game in progress or create a "room" so others can join you. As many as eight players can join a room in the PS3 version, 12 on the Xbox 360.And, of course, the insane self-crashing mode is back. But this time you can initiate a wreck anywhere in the city. Keep it going by pressing the explosion button and taking down chains of cars with you to maximize the dollar amount of your damage.The Burnout Paradise game is a little slice of vehicular madness set in an exquisite corner of heaven.
